New Review

While I was away Matthew Brady gave me a review on his site Warren Peace (cleverest title ever). You can read it here. Matthew offers yet another possible interpretation of Dolores's problem which reminds me again how an author can have little to do with what his story is "about". Its a very kind review and the rest of the site is very awesome as he looks at beautiful older Kirby stuff as well as a great variety of current graphic novels. Quality stuff people. Check it out.

Goddamned Dirty APE

I am sure that joke is made all the time, but it just occurred to me. All right so this weekend is the Alternative Press Expo in San Francisco. And I have to say I am really excited because it looks like a really awesome convention and secondly I have never been to California!
I will be exhibiting with fellow illustrator and cartoonist Cat Lauigan. For those of you who are attending please stop by table 151 to check out what we've been working on. We'll have lots of fantastic books and as usual I will be selling underwear. Trust me, its adorable.
Below is the cover of my new and humble mini-comic "My Terrible Tearable Heart". Come by and check it all out.

SPX & Forty Four Presidents

Well Folks SPX came and went a couple weeks ago and apparently i was soooo awesome that I lost my blogging brain and have yet to get them back until now. But here is my SPX report! I Shared a Table with cartoonist J.T. Yost and I think we both came away from it very pleased with the weekend. The fair had a really good "vibe" for lack of a better word as the venue was comfortable and there was good flow. The biggest complaint was how utterly cold the place got on the second day. But if that's the biggest complaint at a convention then that's a good sign.
I met a lot of really cool people, including our table mate to the right Josh Neufeld author of A.D.: New Orleans After the Deluge. I was really struck this time around at how truly nice most of the people you meet are.
Other things I love is seeing all the good new stuff out there and the big pile of reading material which satiates me for weeks afterwards. I regret not meeting more of the people I wanted to but I always feel like I don't "do" enough. Here is J.T. manning our weirdly located table below:

In other news my friend and fellow cartoonist Maria Sputnik has just released her hilarious book Forty Four Presidents co authored by MZA. You can check it out on Amazon.

Oh there's more! So much more. APE is coming up and I have a new mini (mini!) comic, but it will have to wait until tomorrow.

Just a sketchbook drawing today. This is one that didn't make it into my latest endeavor.

TONY Link

Here's a link to the photo finish feature in the current issue of Time Out New York: http://newyork.timeout.com/articles/i-new-york/78487/photo-finish

And for a little visual stimulation here is a drawing of my friend I made for her birthday party invites. It was a very fun job because she wanted the invitations to be like scratch-off lotto tickets where the invitees would have to scrape that fun foil stuff off to find out where when etc. I might post the invite itself after the party happens but in order to ensure a bunch of randoms don't show up I will wait on that for now.

oh weird its all sort of colours! I'll figure this out I swear. For now enjoy this psychedelic version.

Time Out New York

I have done another Photo Finish for the good folks over at Time Out New York and its out today. Pick up a copy and check it out. It may not be as funny as anthropomorphic baby ice cream carts being eaten alive, but it holds its own.
And its in the SEX issue! Now that's an issue I can get behind. Or under. ha? Read it.

Good News & SPX

I received a purchase order from Diamond Comics Distributors so you can officially anticipate my comic The Deformitory in comic book shops by the beginning of November. I can't describe how anxious I was while anticipating this order, but I can describe how I feel now: Awesome.

Also SPX is only a couple of weeks away! I have way too much work to do but I am fairly secure in my ability to squeeze it all in. Its horrifying but I gotta make it happen. I will be sharing a Table with fellow Xeric recipient and cartoonist extraordinaire J.T. Yost. Our Table number is W26B which seems suspiciously off to the side. Oh well. Viva la W26B.

Sequential Tart Interview

Hey, I got interviewed! By Sheena McNiel for Sequential Tart and here it is! I hope I don't sound like too much of a jerk. I would like to think I am not a jerk. At least not when it comes to comics. But to judge my jerkiness for yourself please read THIS and have a happy Monday.

PLAYBACK:stl Review!

Happy Friday Everyone!

One of these days I will post something that is neither review nor Deformitory related, but until that day here is another review, this time by Sarah Boslaugh for PLAYBACK:stl. She's given it a positive review (yay!) and offered up a new interpretation of Delores's lobster claws. Sarah speculates that it is a metaphor for the creative dilemma, one that feeds and betrays you, which I enjoy. :) This is coming on the heels of Rob Clough's interpretation that the claws can be seen as a metaphor for the nature of addiction. You can read Sarah's review HERE.

Also I got a shout out over at "Comics and ... Other Imaginary Tales" (here). Its not so much a review as a review of reviews? Whatever it is I appreciate the write up. :)

Enjoy your weekend, thanks for reading!

High-Low Review

Hey there young fellas!
Rob Clough has reviewed The Deformitory for his blog High-Low and he seemed to appreciate and enjoy it. He gives a thorough and accurate description of the plot and I have to say I happily agree with his criticism of my art work. Also I was reviewed alongside some artists I really admire as well as others I am looking forward to reading. Its the last in line about two thirds down the page right HERE. Go Summer Go Comics. xo
